How does acupuncture help with weight loss? There are several ways that acupuncture addresses the weight loss issue. One way is that it reduces stress by releasing endorphins. Endorphins are released by needling certain specific ear points. Endorphins help with food cravings a person may have. When a person experiences stress they release the hormone cortisol which makes it especially difficult to lose weight as this plays havoc with their metabolism. Also, by needling Liver points, the body’s response to stress will be counteracted.

Another way acupuncture helps with weight loss is by strengthening the Stomach energy or Qi. This helps with proper digestion and will help with regulation of blood sugar.

So an acupuncturist will look at the person’s lifestyle to see what needs to be balanced. He/She will suggest the person have a sensible, healthy eating plan that incorporates wholesome, nutritious foods and drink enough water to be properly hydrated. They must also exercise in moderation daily and must have 7-8 hours of sleep a night so the body can recharge and repair itself. Meditation, yoga, Tai chi, and Qigong are also helpful.

Acupuncture is not a quick fix when it comes to weight loss. But being committed to your goals by doing all that is necessary along with acupuncture can help you achieve your goal of weight loss.
